Here at Jacobson & Tsou Orthodontics, we want to help our patients find the confidence to smile brightly each day. While many of our patients are adolescents and adults, we believe the earlier we can help improve a smile, the better.
This is why we offer early orthodontic treatment. We want to give our patients the opportunity to have straighter, healthier smiles as soon as possible, and put them in the best situation to receive effective treatment through Invisalign, braces, and other orthodontic solutions down the line.
Is Early Treatment Always Necessary?
Early treatment is not always required, but it is a good idea to schedule your child a consultation with an orthodontist when they reach the age of seven. It is at this age that the first permanent molars and permanent front teeth erupt. So it’s a great time for our orthodontists to check and make sure the mouth meets the requirements of a comfortable eruption for all permanent teeth.
How Will Early Treatment Affect Orthodontic Treatment Later On?
Early treatment does not necessarily eliminate the need for orthodontic treatment in later years. Rather, it allows your local Chicago and Vernon Hills orthodontists to pave the way for more effective treatment that will hopefully leave your child with a straight and beautiful smile before he or she even enters high school.
Conversely, if our orthodontists determine at the time of consultation that no intervention is needed early on, then patients only need to come to see us if orthodontic concerns arise later, or in their adolescence for normal treatment.
Long Term Benefits
Since our patients have indicated to us that their junior and senior years in high school are the least desirable periods to wear braces or other orthodontic appliances, this makes early treatment an appealing investment.
Starting the first phase of your child’s orthodontic journey around the age of seven or eight allows for an approximate year-long treatment followed by a break for one to two years while the rest of their permanent teeth erupt. After that, your child will return for treatment at either our Vernon Hills or Chicago orthodontist office for the second phase of treatment. This will last anywhere between one to two years. Typically, this kind of orthodontic schedule allows for plenty of time to complete treatment before the patient reaches high school age.
Schedule a Consultation Today
Just as your child should see a dentist by their first birthday, it is highly recommended that you also schedule their first visit to an orthodontist by the age of seven. This allows the caring and talented team at Jacobson & Tsou Orthodontics to get your child's teeth on the right track from early on.
