To Our Jacobson and Tsou Orthodontic Family,
We’re excited to announce that our offices are now fully open!
Our top priority is to keep everyone safe! To that end, we have established new protocols for office visits which are immediately in effect and will continue until social distancing restrictions are no longer needed. We have prepared a two minute video to illustrate these protocols and, hopefully, address any concerns you might have about safety.
Now that the office has reopened, a member of our staff will contact you about scheduling. We will do our very best to get all patients scheduled as quickly as possible. We will be reviewing our previous schedule carefully and starting with patients that were cancelled at the beginning of the crisis in March.

For our patients scheduled for “First Phase” observations or adjustments:
If you are actively turning an expander and your child is due for an observation appointment to determine how many more turns are recommended, please take photos of your child’s smile, upper and lower appliances (if used) and email firstname.lastname@example.org . The doctors will evaluate the progress of the expanders and make recommendations. If an expansion appliance or part of your child’s braces are loose or uncomfortable, please call us to set up an appointment. Most wire adjustments or replacements can be delayed without significant effect on treatment time, especially if we are awaiting the eruption of permanent teeth.
For our patients scheduled for active Invisalign appliances:
If you have just started a series of aligners or in the middle of the series, please call the office or email email@example.com and we will send you additional aligners. If your aligners are not fitting properly, broken or lost, or you are at the end of the series, please call the office to schedule an appointment to rescan your teeth. If you have any questions about your progress, please take photos of your teeth and email them to the address above and the doctors will respond.
For our patients scheduled for braces adjustments:
Most wire adjustments or replacements can be delayed without significant effect on treatment time, especially if we are awaiting the eruption of permanent teeth. If you are currently wearing elastics for bite improvement, please wear them as directed, and full time means 22 hours per day!! This will prove to be your best way of staying on schedule since compliance with elastic wear is the number one reason for extended treatment time. If you have any questions about how to wear your elastics or your treatment progress, please email photos of your teeth while biting to firstname.lastname@example.org and the doctors will review the photos and make recommendations. If you run out of elastics, we will be happy to send you a new supply. If you have anything broken or loose, please send us a picture of it and schedule an emergency appointment.
For patients scheduled for Retention visits:
If your retainers are comfortable and fitting well, please continue to wear them as prescribed and call to reschedule your visit. If your retainer has been fitting well but is now lost or broken, please call the office to schedule a “drop off” of the printed model you were given so we can make a replacement. If your retainer is not fitting well or is uncomfortable, lost or broken, please call the office to schedule an appointment to rescan your teeth. If your lower glued on wire is loose, please call for an emergency repair appointment.
For patients scheduled for New Patient visits , Recall or “between phases” observation visits:
Rather than coming into the office to determine if you or your child are ready to begin orthodontic treatment, please take photos of the upper and lower teeth and bite (Instructional video and examples will be posted soon) and email them to email@example.com . The doctors will review the photos and answer questions about treatment timing. If you or your child are in need and ready for orthodontic treatment, a Virtual consultation can be set up with video conferencing to discuss what treatment would be recommended and financial options.

Please be assured that we are committed to keeping our offices at the highest standard of care while keeping safety in mind for patients and staff. We are taking extra precautions to ensure “in office” visits are safe and comfortable. This is an evolving process and we will continue to keep you informed about potential changes. We understand that email is not the most secure way to send photos and there are some phone apps that we are evaluating for more secure transmission. We will be posting updates as we improve the “Virtual” process.
